Newborns FAQ

  • I recommend making an appointment while you are in your second or third trimester. I will schedule a tentative session date based on your due date. If you have the baby earlier or later than your due date, we will simply reschedule your session based on the baby’s actual birth date. Please note that my schedule can get pretty full so it is important that you notify me as soon as possible if the baby is early or late.

  • Most sessions are done at my studio in Walpole, but I also do some home sessions. Please inquire for more details.

  • Ideally your newborn is between 5 and 14 days old, however I know that life happens and this isn’t always possible! We can absolutely still create beautiful newborn images after 2 weeks. It is just good to keep in mind that older babies may not pose the same way that younger babies do.

  • I use wraps and blankets during the shoot and try to keep the baby as natural as possible. I have everything you see on my website including a big collection of hand made headbands, bonnets, outfits, rompers, etc. I am constantly updating and purchasing new goodies. If there is anything of your own that you would like to incorporate into your session, just let me know.

  • Siblings are welcome to attend the session, but I ask that someone is available to hang out with them or take them out of the studio after their photos are complete. Newborn sessions typically last about 2-3 hours, which can feel very long for a toddler.

  • Of course! I welcome and encourage parents to be photographed with the baby. It is completely up to you, but I know it would be a photo you will treasure forever! More importantly, it would be a photo your baby will treasure forever in years to come.

  • For newborn sessions, I recommend wearing light neutral colors (gray, cream, white, etc.) Solids generally look better than a busy pattern. This will help keep the focus of the photo on the baby. Soft fabrics will create a cozy look.

  • While I don’t work directly with a hair/makeup artist, I’m happy to provide a list of recommendations upon request. Please be sure to allow plenty of extra time in case your appointment runs longer than expected.

  • Extra diapers, wipes, and formula if you’re bottle feeding. It is best if you can bring the baby to the studio on a full stomach. Pacifiers can also be very helpful during these sessions

  • Yes, the studio will be around 80 degrees for a newborn session so parents should dress in layers to stay comfortable.

  • Most babies do get a little fussy during a session so we take as many breaks as needed for feeding and cuddling. Sleepy babies are the easiest to pose so it’s helpful if they arrive on a full belly. I have lots of patience so no need to worry if your baby needs a little extra cuddle time in between sets. Babies can pick up on stress so it's best to just relax and go with the flow.

  • Yes, I love them! They are best done between 28-34 weeks when you have a full belly but are not uncomfortable yet. Maternity sessions fees are complimentary with the purchase of a newborn session.

  • Yes of course! I love when maternity sessions turn into family sessions! That is a sweet moment that will always hold a special place in your heart.

  • Yes, I have received the whooping cough vaccine and always get the flu shot.

Babies, kids & families FAQ

  • I like to allow time for younger children to get comfortable with me when they first arrive. I find it is best if kids view the photo shoot as something fun rather than something they have to do! Most kids do not give a natural smile on demand. Instead, my goal is to make them laugh naturally. I want their smiles to be less posed and more natural. For family photos, I love the more casual family hugs and silliness that is expected with kids.

  • All ages are adorable really but milestones are generally around 3-4 months when they start smiling, 6-7 months when they can sit up, and of course their 1st birthday!

  • Children are best captured in a soft color palette, allowing their personality to be the boldest part of the photo. I provide everything for newborns and I have an adorable wardrobe for babies up to one year. You may use my wardrobe pieces for your whole session or mix in a few of mine with yours.
